Worshiping God at Christmastime

I’ve always had a love of Christmas music, and Christmastime is definitely one of my favorite times of the year.  I also love worship music, and the truths about God that are expressed so well in the lyrics.

The first couple Christmas’s after I accepted Jesus as my savior and received the Holy Spirit, Christmas songs took on a whole new meaning than I had ever known before.  My mind was blown as I came to understand the meaning of the words, and what they meant about God.  I was baffled at how I could have missed it, singing the lyrics all growing up!  I would like to encourage others to not just sing the words of old familiar Christmas songs this year, but to take them to heart.

I love worshiping God by singing Christmas songs this time of year.

Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite Christmas songs, “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”.  I love that there are several exclamation points in this song, and I wish there were more, because Jesus’ Advent is really exciting stuff!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!

Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King.

Christ by highest heav’n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of the Virgin’s womb.

Veil’d in flesh the God-head see;
Hail th’Incarnate Deity,
Pleased as Man with man to dwell,
Jesus our Emmanuel!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!

Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Ris’n with healing in His wings,
Light and life to all He brings,
Hail, the Son of Righteousness!
Hail, the heav’n born Prince of Peace!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King!
