Praying Through the Psalms: Pslam 2

Here is the second installment of my project of praying through the psalms in one year.  My goal in this is to become a better worshiper of God and to let my heart cry out to and glorify Him through my prayers.

So here goes… my prayers are in italics

Pslam 2

1 Why do the nations conspire

and the peoples plot in vain?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand

and the rulers gather together

against the Lord

and against his Anointed One.

Lord, I thank you for adopting me into your family, so that I am not longer one taking a stand against you.  I pray that you would be causing an awakening in this country and around the world, that many people would come to serve and worship you with their lives.

3 “Let us break their chains,” they say,

“and throw off their fetters.”

Lord God, I thank you that I am no longer a slave to my sin.  I pray that others would come to see the freedom that there is in living in relationship with you.

4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;

the Lord scoffs at them.

Lord, I pray that by your grace my life can be one that is pleasing to you, and that I not be taking actions or having an attitude that you scoff at.

5 Then he rebukes them in his anger

and terrifies them in his wrath, saying

6 “I have installed my King

on Zion, my holy hill.”

Lord, thank you for caring enough about our relationship to rebuke me when I sin against you.  Thank you for having a sovereign, perfect plan that no one can foil, because you are the most powerful and holy of all.

7 I will proclaim the decree of the Lord:

He said to me, “You are my Son,

today I have become your Father.

8 Ask of me,

and I will make the nations your inheritance,

the ends of the earth your possession.

9 You will rule them with an iron scepter,

you will dash them to pieces like pottery.

Lord, I thank you that you are like a Father to me, and that I can request anything of you.  God, thank you that you are generous and give good gifts to your children according to your will.

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;

be warned you rulers of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear

and rejoice with trembling.

Lord, I pray that you help me to remember that you are powerful, that nothing is impossible for you.  Let my worship of you reflect the fact that you are God Almighty.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry

and you  be destroyed in your way,

for his wrath can flare up in a moment.

Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

God, I thank you for sending the Son to die for my sins, that I am no longer under your wrath, but instead by your grace, you are my refuge.  Thank you for how patient you were with me as I resisted accepting salvation, I’m so grateful that you loved me enough to pursue me.
