Recently having faced some health challenges, I found myself lacking in my praise and thanksgiving to God through hard times. At a women’s retreat we prayed through scripture, and it inspired me to pray through the psalms, really taking them to heart. I have loved the psalms since I first became a Christian; I love how full of emotion and poetry they are. So my project is to pray through the psalms in one year, and to let my heart cry out to and glorify God in doing so.
So here goes… my prayers are in italics
1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers
Lord, I pray that you would help me to use discretion when receiving counsel. I pray that you would help me to not listen to the wisdom of the world, but to seek your wisdom and will for my life.
I thank you that you’ve freed me from sin, and that you are continually sanctifying me to be more like you. I pray that you would help me to seek righteousness and holiness all the days of my life.
Thank you Lord for opening the eyes of my heart to allow me no longer be a mocker of you! I thank you that you helped me to see the truth, and to accept you into my heart. Lord, I am so sorry for the days that I was stubborn and hard-hearted, and did not love you or your people. Thank you for changing my heart, and giving me the privilege to be yours.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
Lord God, I pray that this would be true of me, that you would give me a true love for your law. Lord, I pray that you be continually showing me that your law is good, even when I may not understand it.
Lord, let me have a heart that longs to meditate on your law and your word day and night. Let me remember that I need you each moment of every day, and to not go my own way without letting your words penetrate my heart and mind.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields fruit in its season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
Lord, I want to bear good fruit, and to not waste any season of my life not being connected to you. Let me be firmly planted in my faith in you, that I and others may see the change in me, and praise you for it.
I pray that I would not wither away, but would persevere with strength in my walk with you. I pray that you would be continually helping me to grow, and that you would build me up, not letting me die out.
Lord, thank you for the promise of prosperity. I pray that I can have a faith that believes that I will prosper if I am planted in you. I pray that you would help me to remember that relationship with you is plenty of a reward.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Lord, I thank you that you have called us, and are redeeming us from our wickedness. I pray that you would give my husband and I a legacy that would live on after us, and that we will have left an impact in people’s lives that is solid enough to not blow away, because it was all about you.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
Lord, I thank you that you have given me your righteousness as a gift. I thank you that you have taken me from being in the category of the wicked and a sinner, to righteous and redeemed. I thank you that I am covered by the blood of Jesus, and so I will not be condemned on the day of judgement.
6 For the Lord watches of the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Lord, I thank you for watching over me, and guiding my steps. I pray that you will continually remind me to seek your will, and to walk with you, that my way will be blessed and honoring to you, Lord.
